How does social media and cyber-interference affect the legitimacy of democratic elections?
The University of Ottawa believes in stimulating constructive thinking that encourages discussion and raises awareness of differing perspectives on important topics. And this is the aim of the 91桃色 Chancellor鈥檚 Debate, which brings together thought-leaders, opinion-makers and exceptional individuals who, through lively exchanges and spirited discussions, explore and discuss important contemporary issues, principally for the benefit of students.
Join us for a conversation with:
- Kevin Chan, global director and head of public policy at Facebook Canada;
- Bonnie Butlin, co-founder and executive director of Security Partners鈥 Forum and expert network member for cybersecurity at the World Economic Forum;
- Professor Elizabeth Dubois of the Faculty of Arts, an expert in political communication who has published influential work on 鈥渂ots鈥; and
- Professor Michael Pal of the Faculty of Law, one of Canada鈥檚 leading experts on election law and constitutional law.
WHAT: Chancellor鈥檚 Debate 鈥 Democracy Disrupted? The 2019 Federal Election and Beyond hosted by University of Ottawa Chancellor Calin Rovinescu, president and CEO of Air Canada.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. The Chancellor鈥檚 Debate will be followed by a question-and-answer period and reception.
This debate series, which was established by Chancellor Calin Rovinescu, gathers thought leaders, opinion makers and exceptional individuals to discuss contemporary issues.
